CYCLE SYNCING FOR freaky biz girls (OR: HOW I STOPPED FIGHTING MY BIOLOGY)

Preview

Capitalism expects us to operate on a 24-hour solar cycle. It expects us to wake up with the exact same energy, output, and focus every single day. But if you are a squiggly brained weirdo, a creative, or someone with a menstrual cycle, you know that is an absolute lie.

We don't run on a 24-hour cycle. We run on a 28-ish day lunar cycle.

For the longest time, I tried to force myself into the 24-hour hustle box, and it always ended in burnout. Now, I have my entire menstrual cycle mapped out in my Google Calendar. It sits right at the top of my day as an "All Day" event, acting as a filter for everything I schedule.

THE WHY: AVOIDING THE OVERCOMMITMENT TRAP

Having my cycle in my calendar means I don't do that thing where I overcommit socially during ovulation, and then have to drag ass to a party two weeks later during my luteal phase.

We have all been there. During ovulation, you think you can conquer the world. You are magnetic, you are sparkly, and you say yes to three networking dinners, a launch party, and a coffee date. Cut to two weeks later: you are deep in your luteal phase, you want to be a hermit in the woods, and you are cursing your past self for making you put on hard pants.

When you sync your business to your cycle, you stop working against your own body. Here is how that actually looks in my life and business.

THE FOUR PHASES OF CEO ENERGY

MENSTRUAL PHASE (The Winter) This is the time for rest, reflection, and stepping away from the operational noise. I try to clear my calendar of discovery calls and forward-facing meetings. I let myself have intentional, slow mornings. But this isn't just about doing nothing. I use my quiet time—often the hours after all the van and animal tasks are done—as an "Architect Window" for deep, visionary work. I let myself process the "gross soup" of running a startup and dream up the next big steps.

FOLLICULAR PHASE (The Spring) Energy starts returning. This is the planning and brainstorming phase. If I have a new marketing campaign to design, a new piece of proprietary software to map out, or a new product to ideate, this is when my brain is primed for it. I am planting the seeds that I will harvest later in the month.

OVULATION PHASE (The Summer) This is when I am at my absolute sparkliest. Communication is effortless, and my capacity for holding space for others is at its peak. This is when I schedule all my podcast guest spots, host Mastermind Q&A days, and dive into high-touch community building. If I have to pitch Soma Lumin or do discovery calls, I stack them here because my magnetism is doing half the work for me.

LUTEAL PHASE (The Autumn) The energy shifts inward. As someone who naturally stops at 70% completion on tasks, this phase is my secret weapon. Luteal energy is perfect for wrapping things up, doing heads-down admin, and finally closing those open loops. It is the time to execute on the plans I made earlier in the month, clear the decks, and prepare to rest again.

THE HOW: ADDING YOUR CYCLE TO YOUR CALENDAR

Syncing your cycle into your calendar makes it so much easier to plan events, markets, and self-care around your natural rhythm. Here are my instructions for getting it set up:

STEP 1: EXPORT YOUR CYCLE DATA Open your period tracking app (Clue, Flo, Kindara, etc.). Look for Export / Backup Data in the settings. Most apps will let you export a CSV or TXT file with your cycle dates. If your app doesn’t offer an export, you can simply write down your expected phase start dates for the next few months.

step 2: either DIY using a calendar or using a trusted software or ai tool, future vision where your cycle dates and hormonal windows will land. i like using Viktor for tasks (< use that link for a free trial) like this because i like the security and that he lives in slack where i host all my work.

STEP 3: IMPORT TO GOOGLE CALENDAR Go to Google Calendar on your desktop. Go to Settings, then Import & Export, and upload your CSV file. (If you are doing this manually, just create a recurring "All Day" event for each phase).

STEP 4: COLOR CODE I like to assign a specific color to these events so they stand out from my regular meetings. Make sure they are set as "Free" rather than "Busy" so they don't block people from booking your calendar!

<3

When you stop expecting yourself to be a machine, you give yourself the grace to be a visionary. put less meetings on your calendar the first day of your cycle, the world will still tur!

Try putting your cycle on your calendar this month, and watch how much unnecessary friction disappears from your life.
